Carbonized; requires a current CarbonLib to run

Macbard chord generator for MacintoshMacBard is a fun little toy for musicians of all skill levels. Simply choose a key and click on Create A Song. MacBard will generate a few randomized but appropriate chord sequences. The chords are simply displayed by name, so you get to decide how to play them. MacBard does offer a few casual suggestions on how you might interpret the chords, but you can ignore those at will.

If you just want to play around on your guitar, piano or other instrument, MacBard can give you chord seqences to play with. If you're a song writer and feel at a creative loss, try playing with MacBard a bit and see what comes up.

If you get stuck or feel lost, turn on Show Balloons in the Help menu. Pop-up balloons will give you some assistance when you run the cursor over something.

MacBard is freeware. Feedback is always welcomed. The email address is at the top of this document.

Future plans/goals (imagined but not guaranteed):

  • Let MacBard save songs into a text file
  • Add out-of-key chords, such as the "V of V", Neopolitan 6th, minor IV, etc. (MacBard presently generates only chords which are strictly in-key.)
  • An option to display songs in a pseudo-comp-sheet format
  • Generate randomized structures, such as ABABCAB, ABACAB, ABABC, etc.
  • Do something about sequences with odd numbers of chords
  • Make some rhythmic suggestions
